An 11-hour motorbike ride from Kathmandu – or a bone-jarring two day journey on public transport – lies the municipality of Limchungbung.
It boasts one of the most stunning panaromic views of the Himalaya anywhere in Nepal, but it is so remote many people have never seen a foreigner before.

This is where CSN is pioneering an innovative teacher support programme, we call LEAP.
LEAP provides pre-primary and primary teachers with lesson plans, support material and student workbooks to improve the quality of their teaching. The lesson plans are aligned with the government curriculum and textbooks so teachers feels comfortable and confident using them.

Unlike other education programmes, we do not just provide some training and materials and then leave. Our team is based full-time in the community, providing daily coaching and support to teachers.

We currently support 13 schools across the municipality. With no paved roads, our team spends hours travelling between the schools by motorbike on treacherous mountain tracks.
This huge investment of time and effort is worth it, because local children have so few opportunities. Their best chance lies in gaining a solid education foundation, and LEAP helps to build that.

Our remarkable work in Limchungbung is only possible through a partnership with progressive local leaders, like municipality chairperson, Mejar Kumar Rai. Rai (below) spent years working in South Korea and returned determined to transform his community.

It is by working in partnership with community leaders like Rai and the local schools, and through the dedication of CSN staff, that we are able to make a difference, even in Nepal’s most remote regions.
